Why DIY? Why Do it Yourself?
If you are comfortable with a screw driver, and interested in learning about how to assemble a personal computer, then there are several reasons why do it yourself PC Kits may make sense for you:
- Save Hundreds of $$$ - By putting your time into the assembly of a personal computer instead of paying someone else to do it for you, you cut out one of the major costs included in the price of a pre-assembled pc and save yourself money in the process.
- Learn about what Makes a Computer Tick - When you assemble a computer yourself, you get to see firsthand each of the components that your pc requires to operate. Everything about computers makes more sense when you can visualize the components and how they physically fit together.
- Guarantee Your PC is High Quality Inside and Out - You have probably used computers from well-respected brand like Dell, Compaq, IBM or Sony in the past. Aside from knowing that the chip is from Intel or AMD, do you have any idea who made the motherboard, hard drive or RAM? There are a lot of manufacturers out there, and the only way to know that each and every component is high quality is to hand select each part on your own. How long will it take me to assemble my PC Kit?
The time it takes to assemble a PC depends on several factors. In general, we find it takes 2 to 4 hours of dedicated time to assemble one of our desktop or laptop PC Kits if it's your first time. The second time around is often much faster.
The following tips can help speed up the process:
- Try to block out several hours of time devoted to the assembly of your kit without distractions.
- Ideally, put the Kit together with a friend or family member.
- Follow our assembly instructions step-by-step.
- Submit a service request if you run into any problems, or have questions along the way, because it's always better to ask if you are unsure of one of the steps.

10-Step Easy As My PC Assembly Process
Included in each Easy as My PC kit is a full set of assembly instructions. Our instructions are written in plain English and are fully diagramed with photographs of the exact parts that you have purchased.
We employ technicians to select our hardware configurations, but we don’t ask them to write our instructions. Instead, we hire accomplished writers to author our assembly instructions who have made careers of communicating non-technical topics.
It’s our belief that simple, clear text coupled with before assembly, during assembly and after assembly photographs make it possible for just about anyone to assemble a PC successfully.
The following steps summarize the assembly process, but certainly do not represent the level of detail supported by the full instructions that are included in each kit.
